Illegal Aliens, Muslims, and the P.C. Police Who Love Them

When will we learn?
It seems rather fitting to me that we're all astir talking about political correctness again with the passing of the Arizona immigration law which everyone thinks will lead to racial profiling. A term I very much dislike by the way. I say it's fitting because we've also, once again, had a near miss with the recent bombing attempt in New York.
By the way, might I add; to President Obama, his wonderful administration, and to Janet Napolitano, you guys are doing a fine job keeping us safe.
IS IT REALLY about racial profiling?
I said I didn't like the term racial profiling. And I don't. Here are a couple of things we know:
- The vast majority of all illegal immigrants come from Mexico
- The vast majority of all terrorists are of Middle Eastern descent
So is it really about race? Even if it is to some extent about race? Criminal profiling, a term I think is many times better suited to the facts, inevitably will wind up with a race component. But, we're not talking about singling anyone out simply because of their race with the intent to make their lives miserable. That might qualify as real racialprofiling. What we are talking about is a matter of common sense. It's a matter of simply calling out crime and knowing who the criminals are most likely to be. In the end it is simply about identifying the obvious.
A moose is a deer but a deer is not a moose
A white tailed deer and a moose are both in the deer family. But a white tailed deer and a moose have different attributes. A white tailed deer is obviously not a moose. If I'm a hunter hunting for white tailed deer and a moose comes into my line of sight, do I fire anyway? We'll just knock everything down that moves and we'll sort it all out later.
Please don't draw the conclusion that I am referring to anyone as mere animals, and perhaps this may well be a bad analogy. But we're all in the human family right? And we all have certain attributes between us that set us apart. Whether it be the color of our skin, the way our eyes are shaped, or other various features.
My analogy speaks to the fact that we know mostly that Grandma will not carry a bomb with her onto a plane and a Middle Eastern man probably won't either—but he's got far more probability of having one than Grandma does. Arrest a Mexican-American and a caucasion American and I bet it won't take a rocket scientist being called in to identify the Mexican-American and make the determination that he may have a higher probability of being illegal.
These are simply facts. In this argument we have to deal in facts. Racial profiling is nothing more than a fancy term the P.C. police like to use to stir the pot, cripple the cops, and give criminals free reign to terrorize, pilfer, and do whatever might be on their nasty little lists.
Profiling criminals, the race component, and killing while white
I've said it before that there are enough statistics in our various data bases that tell us a lot about who we are, what we do, and what we're likely to do—some of that is in fact, based on race. White people are no more exempt from the race component of criminal profiling than anyone else is. There are crimes more likely to be committed by white people than other races. You can cite numerous examples of this; white collar crime for example is predominently conducted by white people.
Consider that in the criminal profiling of serial killers, most of the offenders, according to the statistics have been white males, 27-28 years old. In a study by criminologists James A. Fox and Jack Levin conducted in 2001, they determined that 90% of their sample were all male, and of those male killers, 74% were white, 22% were black, and the remainder were of different ethnic groups.
To conclude that white men are more likely to be serial killers is no more racial profiling than concluding that a terrorist is likely to come from the Middle East, or that a person who is a Mexican is more likely to be here illegally.
That said, in light of the Arizona immigration law, may I just leave the reminder again that not a single person is saying that anyone is going to pull José away from the Nacho Stand and force him to produce papers to prove he's got a right to be in America. As for Muslims in our nation's airports being pulled aside, that's entirely another matter. Read my "PROFILE OF A PATRIOT" hub for a full understanding of my opinion that it is the patriotic duty of Muslim Americans to stand aside for the safety of their country and fellow Americans.
I'm tired of political correctness
I'm tired of it. It's old already. It's worn out and tired. Oh sure, I understand the intentions of the P.C. police. Everyone has rights. I get that. Everyone has the freedom to pursue what they want. I get that too. But what it has turned into is something of a I'm gonna do what I want and your just gonna have to accept it.
We are still a democracy—okay, a democratic republic. We should have the right to say to some things, this isn't right. Like in the case of illegals entering the country and getting away with it. Like in the case of identifying that Muslims are more likely to commit terror acts. We should have the right to say, yes, it may inconvenience some people, but this is not racial profiling, it's not an attempt to offend someone or to infringe on someone's rights, it is to protect our country, our way of life, the safety and pursuit of happiness of all Americans, born here or immigrated here legally. There is too much at stake here to be bickering over such nonsense.
I'm not going to say that I cannot appreciate that it would be uncomfortable to have the sense that I was being singled out simply because I happen to look a certain way, or talk a certain way. I can understand how that may make me feel, on the surface, less American. Less able to come and go just as every other American can.
But as I stated about the patriotic duty of the Muslim people who immigrate here, all Americans sometimes have to make great sacrifices to ensure the freedom and rights of every American can sustain. People have died for this country.
In conclusion
Stand aside and be counted, and be happy about it—Mexican, Muslim, or the white guy who gets pulled out on suspicion of a crime. Stand aside and be counted. The very life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is not just dependent on our right to have those freedoms, but dependent as well on being protected from those who wish to dismantle it all.
In the end, if you are not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

There are blond Mexicans, too, so it's not all about what someone looks like. But I'd like to know when Spanish-speaking became a race. Are French-speaking Canadian immigrants a race? Are the Irish a race? And what if the police in Arizona stop a man for speeding and it turns out he's here illegally from Russia? Will he be let go? Of course not, an illegal immigrant is an illegal immigrant, no matter where he/she came from.
Kudos to you for a wonderful hub .. We in India can understand this because we have so much illegal infiltration problem with hordes of people coming from Bangladesh!!
There is immigration law in every country and if someone follows the rule and is granted citizenship, I dont have any problem .. but this illegal thing got to stop everywhere!! Cheers!!

Springboard,
What can I say besides you are completely correct. You know how the left just HATES those damn facts that are so inconvenient!
When is it a crime to enforce our laws?
Everyone is worried about profiling. I think these guys are smart enough to know they will get their socks sued off from them if they do profile, so I think they are setting up good standards to prevent this.
It is funny because the left thinks the right is constantly jumping to conclusions on everything, when it is the left that is now jumping to conclusion. The shoes on the other foot!
Keep on hubbing!
Springboard, This is an excellent hub about profiling. I agree with you completely. It is ridiculous to think you can enforce the law without some degree of profiling. I am also sick of political correctness. How many bombs does it take for us to say Terrorist?
Thank you for an excellent hub and I agree with you that at the moment so many things got out of hand. Everywhere you have to have Law and Order and that is it. No argument about it. I don't care if that person comes from the moon, that person has to live by Law and Order and if it didn't down it goes. Finish.
If they don't the law, it means open boarders.
Keep on hubbing!
Springboard, this sure is a big problem the illegal,we face in India too.I think we have over 100 million illegal people living here,as far as papers are concerned they are dime a dozen, and you know that. This is the same every where, isn't it?
yeah no one would accept but thats right, the number, thats almost 7-8% of our population, they are scattered all over the places, and they are increasing it by all means, all methods possible, and the same old story our politicians are fighting for their votes.Thats the only fight and aim left for them to be 'owner'of the vote bank,in place of driving them away back to their places so we can utilize our limited resources in a better way.
Well in statistics we have probability, probability of comminiting terrosristic acts and Muslims have high probability of commiting it, it is history with facts and it is not profiling, just statistics and proven by record.
very nice Springboard, Take care, maita
You made the point in your HUB that most terrorists are of middle-eastern decent, I don't know if this is true or not but it is a dangerously ignorant perception of Islamic extremism, simply because at best it's a half truth. You may have already herd of Jamie-Paulin Ramirez, aka Jihad Jaime, a 31 year old white American who was arrested in Ireland for plotting the murder of a Danish cartoonist. In October another white American woman, Colleen LaRose, this time dubbed Jihad Jane was also arrested for plotting the murder of Swedish cartoonist and of course we all know about failed Christmas bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a black man from Nigeria. If those examples weren't enough one of the world's most dangerous Islamic fundamentalist groups resides not in the middle east or Africa but Malaysia. Put quite simply racial profiling, despite its occasional benefits or logic is an insufficient tool in combating Islamic radicalism
having been born and raised in Texas. and having spent alot of time on both sides of the border. im all for this law. if you want to live here .. do it legally and speak the language. America is the only country in the world that doesnt force people to speak the the countrys language.
how about these little factiods..
"I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican nation extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders and that Mexican immigrants are an important-a very important-part of it." -July, 23, 1997, Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo.
58% of Mexicans agreed with the statement "The territory of the United States southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." -Zogby International poll held in 2002.
"I want the third generation, the seventh generation, I want them all to think 'Mexico first.'" - Juan Hernandez, Hispanic outreach director for Vicente Fox, President of Mexico
illegal Aliens have placed a burden of well over 180 billion dollars a year on Medical services in the souther US. Crime is rampant every where they settle. oh yes . call me a Racist, I dont care. its a word that has lost its meaning.
Profiling. wow 50% of all ILLEGAL immigrants are Mexican while an additional 24% were from other Latin American countries. by 2050, Hispanics will be between 29 and 32% of the entire population of the United States!!!
Pew hispanic research center.
And this:
9 percent of the Mexican population live in the US _ pew hispanic research center.
the largest Mexican population outside Mexico city resides in Los angeles.
nothing in our constitution says.. give us your tired poor huddled illegal masses.. nor does it really say we have to allow any one into the country that isnt born here.. its a privilige to become an American citizen. not a right.
when a gang of blue haired old white ladies are doing drive by spankings in a convertible or setting off bombs at nursing homes. Ill say Profile em.
todays world.. its not a half truth or perception.. half or more terrorists are of Middle eastern Extraction.. those who arent are sixty percent likely to be of the Islamic religion. so no matter how you parse it.. We need to be on the look out for Islamic Followers. which are mostly of Middle eastern heritage.
its not pretty but thats the way it works. instead of us being at each others throats. the Muslim community needs to work with us on ferreting out Extremists. and put an end to this now. before it truly gets out of hand.
I also have no problem with Profiling idiot wanna be redneck extremists who think god told them to build a bomb to take out a day care or mosque.
we have to be on the look out for something other wise law enforcement will be looking for.. " Be on the look out for two people" becuase to say they are white, brown, tall, short, fat, skinny or dressed crappy might be insulting and profiling.
If I sound pissed off.. sorry didnt mean it that way. not sure how to tone it down LOL.
There is always "profiling" of some sort. Our society and any other that will not embrace the Golden Rule for it's businesses, government, and every aspect of life is uncivilized. I've been "profiled" myself. I don't care for it. I don't care to be falsely imprisoned again either. BUT THAT IS WHAT THIS COUNTRY DOES ANYTIME IT WANTS TO. People run it. There are small counties with small minds and you may as well get related. Going to court? TAKE MONEY WITH YOU! This America that I've heard so much about for all of my 60 years - where the hell is it? I can prove this country is false by looking at my own life. I'm ex Marine. I went to the Southeast Asia war games back in the 60s. You won't sell this false America to me. It never existed. Never. Thanks! Lovely hub!
Hi! Springboard
I agree with your basic theme "I am tired of political correctness". Main reason we are tired is that people who have big public exposure (politicians, journalists, news anchors, columnists in big news papers etc.) and who pose to be "politically correct" are not very honest. In the name of "political correctness" they often defend criminal attitudes. For example when a politician says "not all Muslims are terrorists", most likely he has votes of Msulim voters in his constituency in mind. The statement he/she makes is of course true and practically nobody will disagree with it, but what is left unsaid is what he/she has in mind about votes and that among terrorist today most are indeed Muslims. In India terms "votebank politics" or "pseudo secularism" are used for this kind of attitude. The main problem, people are tired is not about just being politically correct, it is this dishonest attidue of posing with some other motive.
On the other hand it is quite possible that too much of this racial profiling type of attitude is going to affect one of the fundamental pillar of democratic set up "A person is considered innocent until he is found guilty."
Time being courts leave a person even if there is slightest doubt about his guilt (and is it not quite right?)
Don't you feel (even example of Micky Dee indicates that ) that Arizona law may affect adversely American citizens much more than illegal immigrants.
To give even temporary formal right of one or two days to a police cop to decide innocence can have some quite unsettling consequences. Main problem with the law is not that it is about illegal immigrants, it is that it gives right to decide about innocence at least temporarily to a police cop. Such changes may look minor but can have far reaching consequences - McCarthy era was, when things were controlled by a few Senators who may have at least some training in Law. At that time it resulted in ruining lives of many (for example Scientists who were involved in making first atom bombs for USA). Now the rights are being given to Police cop who does not have even such training?
I agree with you that for example Muslims should themseleves offer to be examined. Such unwritten format may be much better way to deal rather than formal right being given. But then unwritten formats are not perhaps enough? Answers are not so easy. Which freedom you prefer to loose and who decides innocence.
Finally main problem is that all these issues have been coming up mainly because in certain countries army top and feudal lords who are ruling (Pakistan Saudi Arabia etc.) are using raising religious sentiments (like Muslims ), anti-Amricanism etc. to make their rule stronger and to play in some power game in whole world. Is it not true that most of Muslim oriented terrorism is still being influenced, supported or controlled by these rulers and they are reluctant to give it up because they consider this as their strategic assets.
But USA administration is even reluctant to recognize this problem. Supporting these rulers seems to be considered in strategic interest of USA. It is actually financing them and providing arms to them. How far one can justify curtailing freedom within USA of American citizens, without any visible action on this basic problem.
So much ignorance, no the majority of terrorists are not middle eastern, middle eastern groups have risen to prominence lately but in the US groups such as the klu klux klan, Arian nation the black panthers etc have been active for decades. I would continue but there is just too much ignorance for me to adress.

Well done. In my view, good police work requires profiling racial or otherwise. If a call comes in to a police station that a white male, 6 ft 2 in, wearing a red poncho just robbed a WAWA you don't stop black guys, 5ft 4 in. wearing a green tee-shirt. It's just common sense.
